Amid rising political tension in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election, Afrobeats star Davido has sparked reactions online after sharing a video allegedly showing Senator Francis Fadahunsi making controversial remarks about members of the Accord Party.
In the video circulating on social media, Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, was seen addressing supporters ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.Davido, who shared the footage on his social media page, alleged that the senator authorised supporters to attack or kill members of the Accord Party while urging them to ensure victory for the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
According to Davido’s interpretation of the video, Fadahunsi was heard saying: “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too. This is a Federal Government election. On election day, even if they come with voters card, we won’t allow them to vote.”
Davido described the alleged remarks as disturbing, particularly because they were purportedly made by a sitting senator representing Osun East Senatorial District.
The singer also noted that the comments came ahead of the August 15 election, in which Oyebamiji of the APC is challenging incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party for the governorship seat.Fadahunsi, a retired customs officer, was born on July 12, 1952, in Ilase-Ijesa, Osun State, to the late Chief Israel Adekunbi Fadahunsi and Chief Emily Fadahunsi, both indigenes of Ilase-Ijesa.
Davido’s decision to publicise the video has further intensified conversations around the growing political tension in Osun State as parties and their supporters prepare for the governorship election.
