Hafsat Yusuf, the woman who gave birth to quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, on Wednesday, has died.
The deceased husband, Salisu Nafiu, told Daily Trust on Thursday morning that she died at the hospital around 1:00 a.m.He, however, said the (quintuplets) all five babies—three boys and two girls—are alive and receiving medical care at the facility.
Nafiu did not provide further details on the circumstances surrounding her death.
Hafsat delivered the quintuplets via Caesarean section at about 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
The husband, a tricycle rider, had expressed gratitude for the successful delivery, noting that it was his wife’s ninth childbirth.
He also said medical personnel at the hospital were giving the newborns special attention to ensure their well-being.
Earlier, the Kano State Government announced that it would take full responsibility for the healthcare of the quintuplets.The state Ministry of Health said the intervention is part of efforts to strengthen maternal and child healthcare and reduce maternal and infant mortality.
