There was palpable tension as gunmen reportedly attacked some hostels of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) students in Ado-Ekiti, forcing many students to flee for safety.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday night, March 30, 2026.Eyewitnesses said that the attackers stormed the hostels located off-campus armed and moved from hostel to hostel robbing students of their valuables, including mobile phones, laptops and cash.
A student of the institution with an X (formerly Twitter) account, @yapperaholicc, who also confirmed the attack in a post on X, said such an attack has become a recurring incident at the area.
In the post made at around 3:01 am of Tuesday, the student wrote, “Armed men are attacking students in their hostels in EKSU at midnight!!!!!”
@yapperaholicc who said the attack occurred at the Phase 2 area of the university community, added, “We are supposed to be reading for our exams!!!!!”
The student noted, “It has been going on for three days now!!! They are also robbing us. Please help us repost…”The Public Relations Officer of Ekiti State Police Command, Abutu Sunday, confirming the incident, said that a suspect has been arrested and further investigation is going on.
“A suspect has been arrested in connection to the incident and he is currently undergoing investigation, while necessary measures have been put in place to forestall reoccurrence,” the police spokesperson said.
