The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has officially confirmed the tragic death of six of its final-year Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Nursing students following a fatal motor accident.
In a special release dated February 24, 2026, and signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Olayinka Balogun, the university disclosed that the students died in a ghastly crash that occurred on Sunday, February 22, along the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road at Otte, Kwara State.
Eclat Media had earlier reported the incident.
According to the university, the victims — Shehu Nana Firdawsi Hamza, Idris Jamila, Abdulraheem Maimunah Hamza, Blessing Kevwe, Owoicho Elizabeth, and Aroke Ozavize Victoria — were travelling in a commercial bus from Suleja, Niger State, to Ogbomoso for their final examinations when the accident occurred.The institution described the loss as devastating, noting that the deceased students embodied determination and the spirit of hope the university strives to nurture.
> “This devastating incident has left our entire academic community in mourning,” the statement read.
LAUTECH extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and loved ones, assuring that the university community stands in solidarity with them during this period of grief.
The management also called on members of the public to keep the families and colleagues of the deceased in their prayers, expressing hope that the memories of the students would continue to inspire compassion, perseverance, and unity.The university concluded the statement with prayers for the peaceful repose of the students’ souls.
