A large crowd converged on Okelerin junction Ogbomoso Oyo state earlier Wednesday as a teenage girl fell in a puddle of water becoming unconscious thereafter.
“She was walking up from GB axis and then as she reached the junction she dived into a crater with water at the edge of the road, started swaying and gulping the muddy water ravenously,” an eyewitness told ogbomosoinsightonline.com. “People rushed to assist her but she lay in the little amount of water collected in the crater, swaying uncontrollably, and put her mouth down there hastily gulping down the water.”The eyewitness, a shop owner across the road, informed further that they first thought she was a devotee of the Osun river goddess from the way she was twirling and guzzling the water.
“That was our initial thought that she was an Osun worshipper, infact Osun priestesses later came to the scene but they saw she was not of their sect and so they left. The whole drama took about three hours before curtain so to say was drawn on it. More people continued to troop in to see the spectacle.”
Funnily, a viral video showed some people at the scene lifting the legs of the girl to spread it apart to gain a view of her private part and they exclaimed, “They had removed her private part.”But nothing of such happened according to the investigation by Ogbomoso Insight. “Eventually she regained her senses and she was helped to stand. The first thing she asked was, “What am l doing here? What is happening?” Thereafter, her relatives who had arrived guided her home.
A commentator opined, “She could have taken colo (colorado) or any of such hard drug, that is how a drug like colo runs its cycle. If that girl didn’t get water at that time she could have passed away. I will say that morning drizzle happened because of her or else she could have died of she had no water at that time. Recall the case of a 43 year-old man in Kwara state recently who after reportedly taking colo substance jumped into a well where he died.”When contacted men of Divisional Police headquarters Owode informed there was no official report of the incident and so no information was volunteered.
Then news spread she was a victim of ritual. News filtered in to the office of Ogbomoso Insight that “a girl was dumped by Yahoo plus suspects at Okelerin junction.” It was added that her private part had been sliced off by the ritualists. This version gained traction quickly.
However, it was later learnt she was not even dead. Another eyewitness disclosed, “It was not a case of ritual. Probably she was drugged by some acquaintance (or boys who raped her) or she drugged herself to feel high. And you know those drugs, some of them after taking them will require drinking plenty of water to calm the nerves or for them to regain their senses.”
