Terrorists have invaded Igbesi, a community within Oke Onigbin town in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting the Oba Onigbesi of Igbesi Land and several other residents.
SaharaReporters gathered from sources familiar with the incident that the attack occurred on Saturday when armed terrorists stormed the community and launched a fierce assault on the residents.According to one of the sources, the monarch, identified as the Kabiyesi Onigbesi of Igbesi Land, was among those taken away by the armed attackers.
The source told SaharaReporters that the terrorists whisked the monarch away to an unknown location after successfully gaining access to the community.“Kabiyesi Onigbesi of Igbesi Land has been kidnapped by armed bandits and whisked away to an unknown bush,” one of the sources said.
Another source said the attackers stormed the community on Saturday and carried out the operation before fleeing with the monarch and other abducted victims.
“Bandits stormed the community yesterday (Saturday) in a fierce attack and successfully laid hands on the monarch,” the source said.
The latest incident has heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in parts of Kwara State, particularly communities in Kwara South that have increasingly come under attacks by armed terrorists and kidnappers.
Igbesi is a community within Oke Onigbin town in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara South.The circumstances surrounding the abduction, including the exact number of people taken away by the attackers and whether the terrorists have established contact with the families of the victims, remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that suspected bandits had kidnapped a woman identified as Iya Ayoka, the first wife of the Baale (community head) of Dabu community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
SaharaReporters gathered that the latest abduction occurred on Friday night, August 21, 2026, when the bandits stormed the community and abducted the monarch’s wife.A source who spoke with SaharaReporters said the incident had heightened fear among residents, as the attackers continued to target communities in Kwara South.
The source said the bandits had also been using the TikTok account of another kidnapped victim, a 23-year-old woman identified as Babatunde Fasilat, to make posts and communicate with the public.
Fasilat was reportedly abducted on July 26, 2026, in Wande community.According to sources familiar with the incident, the bandits attacked Fasilat’s family after invading their home.“Her father was shot and the bullet penetrated the other side of his body. The bandits were four. While her father was trying to defend himself, they went to her room and kidnapped her,” the source said.
The source added that the abductors demanded ₦20 million as ransom for Fasilat’s release.
