LAUTECH Breaks Silence, Gives Update on NELFUND Loan Disbursement
The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology has provided fresh insight into the status of the Federal Government’s student loan scheme, revealing that thousands of its students approved for funding are yet to receive disbursements.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, disclosed this on Thursday during a press conference held to herald the university’s week-long convocation activities.
Speaking on the Federal Government’s student loan initiative managed by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, the Vice Chancellor noted that while a significant number of students had successfully applied and secured approval, the actual release of funds remains pending.
According to him, “About 19,000 of our students applied for the NELFUND scheme. Out of this, over 15,000 have been approved, but the funds are yet to be disbursed.”The development highlights growing concerns among students and stakeholders about delays in the disbursement of the loan, which was introduced to ease financial burdens and improve access to higher education across Nigeria.
Professor Kalilu did not specify the reasons for the delay but emphasized the university’s continued engagement with relevant authorities to ensure that approved students receive their funds promptly.
The NELFUND programme, a flagship initiative of the Federal Government, is expected to play a critical role in supporting students nationwide.
However, the delay in disbursement at LAUTECH underscores broader challenges that may be affecting the rollout of the scheme.
As convocation activities commence, many affected students remain hopeful that the situation will be resolved soon, allowing them to fully benefit from the government’s financial support initiative.
