The Delta State Police Command have arrested the community head and chief organiser of the controversial Ozoro festival and four suspects in the Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
NewsRegion had earlier reported that the incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, 18 March, during the kingdom’s festival.According to some of the men in the videos, girls and women were mandated to remain indoors during certain hours of the celebration.
It was also gathered that the community’s leadership usually issues approvals, notifications, and sensitisation ahead of the festival, but no such guidance was given this year, contributing to the alleged attacks.
Giving an update on the case, the spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, Edafe Bright, confirmed that the organisers of the event have been arrested. In a statement released on X, Bright revealed that one Chief Omorede Sunday, the community head and chief organiser of the event, and four other suspects are currently in custody.
The Police PRO further revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, vowed to track anyone involved in the act and bring them to justice
He wrote, “The community head and chief organiser of the event, one chief Omorede Sunday and four other suspects from Oramudu quarters in Ozoro have been arrested. The CP has ordered that they should be transferred to State CID with immediate effect. The CP vows that anyone involved will be arrested and brought to justice.”
