The Nigeria Police have arrested seven suspects linked to a violent attack on Oloka community in the Ogbomoso area of Oyo State, which resulted in the killing of five park rangers attached to the National Park Service at Old Oyo National Park.
Earlier, the Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, had disclosed during the governor’s visit to the community that three suspects had already been apprehended, assuring residents that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.Confirming the development on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the arrests followed an intensive, intelligence-driven operation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna. He explained that three suspects were initially arrested after a detailed manhunt, while four others were later apprehended at different locations across the country.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects confessed to carrying out the attack alongside other members of their gang. Findings showed that their main objective was to free detained members of their syndicate who were in the custody of forest guards, an act they reportedly achieved during the assault.
The police noted that the suspects, including the alleged mastermind, have continued to provide useful intelligence, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the group. The Oyo State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could cause panic.
